The Cincinnati Museum Center said Tuesday it is one of 10 recipients of the 2009 National Medal for Museum and Library Service.
The award, presented by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, recognizes museums’ outstanding social, educational, environmental or economic contributions to their communities.
The medal also includes a $10,000 award. The Museum Center will accept the award at a to-be-announced event in Washington, D.C.
The Museum Center, at historic Union Terminal, sees more than 1.3 million visitors annually. Its community-based efforts include a youth program that has given more than 1,500 students jobs as museum interpreters; exhibits, lectures and hands-on programs that address community issues; and online resources.
The Cincinnati Museum Center includes the Cincinnati History Museum, Duke Energy Children’s Museum, the Museum of Natural History, the Robert D. Lindner Family Omnimax Theater and the Cincinnati Historical Society Library.
